Shawdesh Desk: Nine warehouses of jhut (waste fabric from woven and knit garments) were gutted in a fire at Deoalibari Beltola area of Gazipur on Tuesday morning.

Md Mamun-or-Rashid, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said five firefighting units of Joydebpur, DBL and Kaliakair rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after 4 hours of frantic efforts.

It had been assumed by the firefighters that the blaze might have originated from fag-end of cigarettes but the amount of the total loss couldn’t be measured immediately.
